Marketing and Communications Manager (Maternity Cover)

Merrifield Consultants are delighted to be partnering with Oxford Head Injury Services (OHIS) to recruit a Marketing and Communications Manager on a fixed-term maternity cover contract. This is a fantastic opportunity to shape the communications of a highly respected local charity, helping to raise awareness of acquired brain injury and the life-changing support OHIS provides across Oxfordshire.

Key details

Salary: £38,000-£40,000 FTE (pro rata)

Contract: Fixed-term (12 month maternity cover)

Hours: 22.5 hours per week (0.6 FTE), worked over 3 days

Location: Kennington, Oxfordshire

Working pattern: Hybrid with approximately one day per week in the office

About the role

This is a varied and rewarding opportunity to lead the marketing and communications function for a well-established local charity making a tangible difference to people affected by acquired brain injury.

Reporting into the senior leadership team, you will develop and deliver the organisation’s marketing and communications strategy, ensuring the impact of OHIS’s services is communicated effectively to funders, supporters, volunteers, partners and the wider community.

Combining strategic planning with hands-on delivery, you will oversee digital communications, create compelling fundraising and organisational content, produce key publications, and champion the charity’s brand across all channels.

Working collaboratively with colleagues across the organisation, you will play an important role in supporting fundraising, increasing awareness and strengthening stakeholder engagement through creative storytelling and impactful communications.

Key responsibilities

  • Develop and implement the annual marketing and communications plan, ensuring activity supports the charity’s strategic objectives.
  • Lead the charity’s digital communications, including website management, social media, email marketing and digital content.
  • Produce compelling content for fundraising campaigns, corporate partnerships, community fundraising, sponsorship, major donor engagement and organisational communications.
  • Create engaging copy for newsletters, website content, social media, marketing campaigns and promotional materials.
  • Lead the production of the Annual Report and Accounts, Impact Report and other organisational publications, ensuring they are delivered on time and within budget.
  • Champion and protect the OHIS brand, ensuring all communications are consistent, accessible and aligned with the organisation’s values.

Person specification

  • Demonstrable experience delivering successful marketing and communications strategies.
  • Excellent written communication skills with the ability to produce engaging content for a variety of audiences and channels.
  • Experience managing websites, social media platforms, email marketing and digital communications.
  • Strong project management skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deliver high-quality work to deadlines.
  • Experience producing publications such as annual reports, impact reports or other organisational materials.
  • Ability to gather, interpret and communicate complex information through clear and compelling storytelling..
  • Strong relationship-building skills with the ability to work collaboratively across teams and with external stakeholders.
  • Experience within the charity, healthcare or not-for-profit sector would be advantageous but is not essential.
