Philanthropy Officer

Merrifield Consultants is delighted to partner with a brilliant Health charity, in the search for a Philanthropy Officer.

Reporting to the Philanthropy Manager, you’ll help drive growth across both the Trust and Major Donor pipelines by supporting high-quality applications, cultivating relationships, and securing new and multi-year gifts. You’ll work collaboratively across teams to strengthen application and reporting processes, while assisting colleagues with their portfolios to boost overall income. Highly organised and an engaging communicator, you’ll bring strong transferable skills, curiosity and ambition to help elevate these key income streams in a supportive, development-focused environment.

Responsibilities:

  • With support from the Philanthropy Manager, take ownership of a portfolio of grant-makers, contributing towards a shared annual income target. This will involve planning, researching and submitting high quality, compelling funding applications to trusts and foundations. Your portfolio will consist primarily of small-medium grant makers, with opportunity to account manage larger funders.
  • Develop lasting and positive working relationships with and take ownership of a portfolio of major & mid-value supporters.
  • Effectively steward your existing donors through face-to-face meetings, visits to the charity, telephone calls and written updates and reports, involving other members of the charity’s team where appropriate.
  • Ensure that supporters receive timely and relevant thank you messaging, correspondence and updates about the work of the charity.
  • Identify unrestricted and restricted projects that can be packaged as compelling funding opportunities, and obtain information required for funding proposals, liaising with colleagues across the charity for relevant information as appropriate.

Skills/Experience Required:

  • Successful relationship building skills, having utilised face-to-face meetings/conversations, telephone conversations and email communication.
  • Customer-focussed: putting the customer/supporter experience front and centre.
  • Excellent spoken and written use of English language in order to present relevant detail clearly and concisely.
  • Ability to think laterally to tailor communications to create personal connections with prospective and current supporters.
  • Strong administration skills with a sound working knowledge of Windows-based software.
